Strengthening Community-led Conservation through CAMPFIRE Training Initiative in Zimbabwe

We recently collaborated with the Community Campfire Association of Zimbabwe (CCAZ) and the Nyaminyami Rural District Council (NRDC) to host a three-day training workshop for Ward CAMPFIRE Committees at Siakobvu. This marks the third training session, following successful sessions in Mbire and Binga districts. The next training sessions are scheduled for Chipinge and Chiredzi districts.

With funding from the UK Government through 'Darwin Initiative', we aimed to enhance the capacity of Ward CAMPFIRE Committees in governance, financial management, and community rights and obligations.

The CAMPFIRE program empowers rural communities to manage and benefit from wildlife and natural resources. Our training focused on addressing challenges such as resource mismanagement and fraud by emphasizing transparent financial management, community engagement, and effective decision-making.

Chief Nebiri emphasized the importance of regular training, urging us to conduct sessions every six months to ensure committee members remain informed and effective in their roles.

We will continue to support these committees in driving community-led conservation efforts and sustainable development in Nyaminyami and beyond.
